Discussion on anti-terrorism held
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University organised a discussion on anti-terrorism and anti-militancy at the temporary campus of the university in the capital yesterday, says a press release.
The Vice-chancellor Rear Admiral A S M Abdul Baten graced the occasion as chief guest while dean, registrar, treasurer, faculty members, students and all officers of the university were present. Speakers highlighted the importance of presence of students in the class room and involving the students in cultural and social activities side by side. The university is determined to detect and control all types of terrorist activities and militancy.
Universities get online boost
Universities across the country has got online boost under the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) of Bangladesh Education and Research Network (BdREN), reports BSS.
Under the programme, 35 universities are being provided with high performance connectivity, and education and management contents development services while the universities are also getting better support online for research, innovation and knowledge-sharing among them. The HEQEP is promoting academic innovation in the universities through introducing the Academic Innovation Fund (AIF) - a competitive funding mechanism. To date, the fund supported over 300 sub-projects through three rounds of competitive grant awards. The AIF, has instilled a culture of research and innovation in the universities, which became integral part of teaching and learning. It has further laid the foundation for the next phase of commercialization of innovation by establishing two Technology Transfer Offices and 10 university-industry partnerships.
HEQEP also implements quality assurance mechanism at national and institutional levels in Bangladesh. Significant progress has been with Institutional Quality Assurance Cells established in 61 public and private universities.
Golden Jubilee celebration of Govt Sarada Sundary Mahilla College held
The daylong Golden Jubilee celebration of local Government Sarada Sundary Mahilla college was held on the college premises in Faridpur on Friday.
On the occasion, a joyous procession of the students wearing colourful dresses brought out in the town. The teachers of the college also joined the procession.
Later on, a film show on the gradual development of the college was screened. In the afternoon, a discussion meeting was also held where hundreds of students, guests and ex-teachers attended. The discussion was chaired by Professor Hasina Banu, principal of the college while Dr SM Wahiduzzaman, Director General(DG) of Secondary and Higher Education of Bangladesh, was present as the chief guest.
Ex-Principal of the college Professor Md. Shahjahan, ADC (Education & ICT) Md. Tamizul Islam Khan, ASP of Police Md. Aminur Rahman, Professor Mosharraf Ali, Principal of Government Rajendra College and Diabetic Association secretary Prof Shaikh Abdus Samad were present, among others.
The speakers underlined the importance of continuing policy of the present government for the development of human resources.
They also stressed the need for eliminating terrorism and militancy from the country to build a peaceful Bangladesh. The DG assured the college authority for its infrastructural development to increase accommodation and hostel facilities of the students.
The discussion was followed by a cultural function.
