It is possible to uproot militancy from the country soon if people from all classes and professions get united, said Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday, reports UNB.
He made the remark while addressing a discussion, titled ‘Our Duties for Eliminating Militancy and Terrorism’, at Dhaka University’s Teacher-Student Centre.
As part of the countrywide anti-militancy campaign announced by the Education Ministry, the university arranged the discussion with its Vice Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique in the chair.
Making a call for forging a social resistance against militancy and terrorism, the minister said the country’s educational institutions are in the high risk of militancy as militants are trying to target and mislead innocent students.
If a student remains absent for 10 consecutive days, teachers should enquire his or her guardian, he said urging the guardians and teachers to remain alert so that their children cannot be deviated.
He said it needs to incorporate anti-militancy essays in textbooks to raise awareness against the menace.
Prof Arefin Siddique said Dhaka University teachers and students embody good moral characters and they will in no way compromise with militancy and terrorism.
He urged all to uphold humanity for building a non-communal Bangladesh being imbued with the Liberation War spirit. Chairman of the University Grants Commission Prof Abdul Mannan, Education Secretary Sohorab Hossain, DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman, Treasurer Prof Md Kamal Uddin, Duta President Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed and DU unit Chhatra League President Abid Al Hasan, among others, spoke on the occasion.
