Schoolboy found dead
HABIGANJ: Police yesterday recovered the body of a schoolboy from Rashidpur village under Bahubal upazila yesterday, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Bablu Sarkar, 15, son of Upanand Sarkar and a class-nine student of Habiganj High School and College, and a resident of Noabad area of Habiganj town, said Assistant Sub-inspector of Srimangal Railway Police.
Nitai Sarkar, uncle of Bablu, said he went to Sylhet at his cousin’s home on Saturday and remained missing on Sunday on his way to Bahubal.
Businessman electrocuted
JHENAIDAH: A businessman was electrocuted at Laxmipur Bazaar in Kotchandpur upazila yesterday, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Abdullah, 30, a resident of Waria village in Sadar upazila.
Officer-in-Charge of Kotchandpur Police Station Ahamed Kabir said Abdullah was seriously injured as he got electric shock at his shop in the Bazaar yesterday afternoon. He was sent to Kotchandpur hospital where on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Boy drowns as boat sinks in river
Bagerhat: A teenage boy drowned as a fishing boat sank in the Bhairab River at Keshabpur in Sadar upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said Nazmul Molla, 13, son of Jahagir Molla of the area, along with his father and four other fishermen were catching fish in the river from a boat around 6:30 am.
At one stage, the boat sank in the river being hit by strong currents. Nazmul went missing while the rest managed to swim ashore. Upon a frantic search, his body was found floating in the river around 9:10 am.
4 Jamaat men among 55 held
Benapole: Police in a special drive arrested 55 people, including four activists of Jamaat-e-Islami, from different areas in Jessore district on various charges, reports UNB.
Sources at Jessore Police Control Room said police launched a drive from Wednesday night to Thursday morning in different areas of nine upazilas and arrested the 55, including four activists of Jamaat.
The four Jamaat men were accused in sabotage cases, the sources said.
Jamaat leader held in Panchagarh

Police arrested a leader of Jamaat-e-Islami from Satkhamar Fazil Madrasah adjacent Boda Bazar in Atwari upazila on Wednesday over subversion plan.
The arrestee was identified as Majharul Islam, 44, ameer of Boda upazila unit of Jamaat and lecturer of Satkhamar Fazil Madrasah.
Officer-in-Charge of Atwari Police Station Mohammad Shah Alam said tipped off, a team of police conducted a raid on the madrasah and arrested Majharul in the evening.
890-tonne VGF rice allocated for poor

A total of 890 tonnes of rice have been allocated under the special Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme to assist the poor of the district in celebrating the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha festival.
According to district relief and rehabilitation office sources, government through the ministry of disaster management and relief has allocated the rice for distribution among 88910 VGF card holder families in all the five upazilas. District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Abdus Salam said each of the selected VGF card holder will get 10 Kg of rice.
