A suspected robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Moshan Bazar of Mirpur upazila in Kushtia yesterday. The deceased was identified as Mukul Munshi, 45, son of Yusuf Munshi, a resident of Paschim Bahirchar Barmile village of Bheramara upazila. Police alleged that he was a member of an inter-district robbery gang and has six robbery cases against him with police including with the Bheramara police station. RAB-12 Commander Major Mosaddek Ibne Mujib said after getting secret information that some robbers numbering 7-8 were taking preparation to commit robbery on the Kushtia-Meherpur Highway, a RAB team raided the area around 3am on Sunday. Sensing presence of law enforcers, the robbers opened fire and RAB members retaliated. The gun battle left Mukul dead on the spot. His other associates, however, managed to flee, said the RAB official.A pistol, a magazine, two rounds of bullet and two machetes were seized from the scene. The body was sent to Kushtia General Hospital for autopsy, said police.
