Govt firm to combat terrorism with support of people: Matia

RANGPUR: Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury yesterday distributed agriculture inputs among the flood-hit farmers of Kurigram districts, reports BSS.
The district administration with support from the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) arranged the programme to distribute agriculture inputs including paddy seedlings, seeds of different varities of vegetable and cash incentives for buying fertilizers.
At the programme, the agriculture minister distributed the inputs among 100 flood-affected farmers.
She also told the farmers that the government allocated Tk 1.79 crore for distributing fertilisers among 16,650 flood-affected framers of Kurigram district. The assistance will help the flood affected farmers to grow wheat, maize and vegetables on one-bigha of lands each to recoup the losses they suffered during the recent flooding.
Referring to some recent incidents, the minister advised the farmers to remain aware about the plotting of destabilization in the country by carrying out terrorist activities.
She said the terrorist activities would only hinder the development of the country, but the government is committed to combat the terrorism with support of the people.
Member of the Parliament from Kurigram-1 constituency Mostafizur Rahman, Agriculture Secretary Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah, Director General of the DAE Md Hamidur Rahman, Kurigram Zila parishad Administrator Jafar Ali, district AL President Aminul Islam Manju Mandal, Deputy Commissioner Khan Md Nurul Amin, Police Super Tobarak Ali, spoke at the ceremonies, among others.
Director General of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (IRRI) Dr Bhaggya Rani Banik, Chairman of Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC)  Nasir Uddin and Rangpur Regional Additional Director of the DAE Shah Alam were present.
