62 stranded fishermen brought back from India

Bangladesh Navy brought back 62 fishermen and their fishing trawlers safely from the Indian waters yesterday and handed them to the Coast Guard at the Hiron Point off the Sundarbans. The fishermen in their boats got caught in a storm in the Bay of Bengal on August 16 and were swept inside the Indian waters while their boats suffered damages, said an Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) press release yesterday.
The fishermen and two of their boats, Allahar Daan and Farhad,  were rescued by Indian Coast Guard and another vessel Rajkiron was handed over to a  Bangladesh Navy vessel Protoy.
Two other trawlers Ma Ganga and Naeem, with four fishermen, are awaiting rescue after necessary repairs to return home.
The 15 fishermen from the boat Allahar Dan are from Cox’s Bazar and the boat belongs Siraj Sawdagar. Most of the 16 fishermen working in Farhad are from Laxmipur, owned by Kayyum Sawdagar. Another trawler Nahin is owned by Alhaj Saber Company that was rescued with 18 fishermen. The trawler Ma Ganga is owned by Radhey Shyam.
Over a hundred Bangladeshi fishermen were missing after being caught in the storm. The Bangladesh Coast Guard and the Indian Coast Guard mounted joint operations to rescue them.
On August 13 the Navy and the Coast Guard rescued two Indian fishing boats and fishermen and handed them back to the Indian coast Guard.
