ACC moves to HC for hearing date in Ershad graft case

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday moved before the High Court for fixing a date of hearing on an appeal filed by former president HM Ershad against his three years’ jail sentence in a corruption case in 1992. Khurshid Alam Khan, counsel for the ACC, told reporters that he moved before the High Court bench of Justice Bhabani Prasad Singha for fixing a date of hearing on the appeal of the former president. The case will come up in the daily cause list of the High Court on Tuesday, he added. A Dhaka court in 1992 convicted former president Ershad, also the Jatiya Party chairman, in the graft case and sentenced him to three years in prison for misappropriating Tk 1.91 crore by misusing power while being the president of the state. The court also directed the authorities concerned of the government to confiscate the money and a Toyota Land-Cruiser jeep from him.
