College student drowns

A college student drowned in the Bhairab River in Mujibnagar Upazila of the district yesterday. The victim was identified as Nazmul Hossain, 20, an inhabitant of Monakhali village. He was a first year student of Mujibnagar Govt. College. Local people said Nazmul drowned the river near Monakhali Bridge while taking bath in the morning. Later, local people recovered his body from the river. Officer-in-Charge of Mujibnagar police Kazi Kamal Hossain confirmed it.
21 Jamaat-Shibir arrested
Jhenidah: Police arrested 54 people, including 21 activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student front Islami Chhatra Shibir, in a special drive from different parts of the district yesterday, reports UNB. Azbahar Ali shekh, additional superintendent of police, Jhenidah, said police conducting a drive in different places of the district from Saturday night to early Sunday morning arrested them on sabotage charges. Among the arrestees, there were also 21 Jamaat-Shibir activists while , others were accused in several cases, including for violence, added the ASP.
Valuables looted in Magura
Magura: Robbers looted valuables worth Tk5 lakh from a house making five of its inmates unconscious through sedation at Beril village in Sadar upazila on Saturday night, reports UNB. Azmal Huda, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said a gang of robbers entered the house of Badiar Rahman, 55, at the village identifying themselves as the householder’s relatives at night. Later, the thugs made all the five house inmates unconscious by feeding them food mixed with sedative drugs.
