A member of banned militant outfit Hizb-ut Tahrir surrendered before police in Jessore yesterday. He is identified as Fakhrul Alam Tushar, 21, ‘Shabab’ member of the militant outfit and son of wood trader Abdur Razzak of Arabpur under Kotwali Police Station.
Monir-uz-Zaman, deputy inspector general of police of Khulna range, disclosed the information at a press briefing held at the office of the superintendent of police, Jessore, yesterday afternoon.
Tushar, who completed education from Electrical Department at Jessore Polytechnic Institute this year, said he was not involved in militant activities.
‘I attended some meetings of the party, nothing else,’ he said at the press briefing.
The DIG said in a bid to return to normal life, Tushar has decided to surrender to police and he would be given legal support in this connection.
Earlier, Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Haque assured that the youths who joined militancy can avail a second chance by getting back to normal life if they are willing.
