The fire that broke out in a garment factory in Chandra Palli Bidyut area of Kaliakoir upazila was brought under control yesterday afternoon after thirteen hours of frantic efforts, reports UNB. Station officer of Kaliakoir fire service station Apurba Bal said the fire ensued on the second floor of the five-storey building of ‘Tropical Nitex’ Factory of ‘Mondal Group’ in the area around 12:45am and soon spread to other floors.
On information, 16 firefighting units from Gazipur, Joydebpur, Mirzapur, Savar EPZ and Kaliakoir fire stations rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control around 2pm, he said. Machinery, thread, cloths and other valuables were damaged in the fire, the station officer added. It could not be ascertained yet what caused the fire, Apurba said. Meanwhile, Gazipur district administration formed a five-member committee to investigate the incident. The committee was asked to submit the report within 15 days.
