Schoolboy found dead
Patuakhali: A schoolboy was found dead in Koborosthan area of the district town yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Sabuj Mia, 15, a class X student of Patuakhali Technical Training Centre and son Motiur Rahman, a resident of the area.
Motiur Rahman, father of the victim, said he phoned his son around 11 pm on Thursday and Sabuj said he was on way home but he did return yet and his phone was found switched off. Saheb Ali Pathan, assistant superintendent of police (Sadar Circle), said being informed by locals, police recovered the body from near a drain in the town graveyard and sent it to hospital morgue for an autopsy.
The body bore several injury marks, said police.
College teacher arrested
SAVAR: Dhaka north detective branch police arrested a teacher of Savar Model College, Touhid Hossain, from college premises on Thursday night on charge of destructive activities, reports BSS. Touhid Hossain is allegedly a Jamaat leader.
Detective branch police handed him over to Savar Thana and Savar Thana police sent him to the court and the court sent him to jail this noon.
Truck kills motorcycle rider
NAOGAON: A motorcycle rider was killed as a truck crushed him on Thursday night at Boalia intersection on the bypass road of the city, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Latif, 38, of the village Boalia under Sadar Upazila.
Officer in Charge (OC) of Sadar Thana Md Tariqul Islam said a truck crushed Abdul Latif last night when he was returning home from Santahar Bazar. He died on the spot.
The OC also said the angry people torched the truck while its driver and helper fled from the scene after the accident.
Assistant Police Super Samiul Alam visited the spot. A case was filed with Naogaon Sadar Model Thana.
The body of the victim was sent to Naogaon Sadar Hospital.
Flood-hit families get Tk 30 lakh
RANGPUR: The Dhaka-based Epyllion Group of Industries distributed Taka 30 lakh in cash among 600 flood-hit families of Chilmari and Ulipur upazilas in Kurigram
district yesterday, reports BSS.
The group distributed the money among the flood-hit families with assistance of Kurigram district administration at separate ceremonies arranged in the two upazilas under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes.
Deputy General Manager (Admin, CSR and Business Development) of the Epyllion Group Rezaul Kabir distributed the cash money in the ceremonies as the chief guest.
