1 lakh farmers hit by flood in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR: During the recent floods over one lakh farmers lost crops in the district, reports BSS.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) source said flood from July 22 to August 5 last has damaged various standing crops on 13,258 hectares of land in seven upazilas of the district.
The official sources said a total of one lakh 149 farmers suffered the loss worth of Tk 135 crore 29 lakh.
Sources said agriculture sector incurred huge loss in vegetable. The office said 30,020 farmers lost vegetables on 3,470 hectares worth of Tk 55 crore 51 lakh. The sources said most of the damaged vegetables are green chilly, brinjal, cucumber, papaya, and Jhinga.
Beside, 850 farmers lost Aush crops on 1,634 hectares worth Tk 9 crore 39 lakh, 12,908 farmers lost jute on 2,483 hectares worth Tk 20 crore 67 lakh, 29,337 farmers lost transplanted Aman seed bed on 2,456 hectares worth Tk 27 crore 26 lakh, 18,799 farmers lost transplanted Aman on 3,110 hectares worth Tk 18 crore 68 lakh and 585 farmers lost banana groves on 105 hectares worth Tk 3
crore 78 lakh.
