Joypurhat: An alleged drug peddler was injured in a gunfight with police at Rukindipur in Akkelpur upazila of the district early yesterday, reports UNB. The injured was identified as Poritosh alias Pori, son of Nani Gopal, a resident of the village. Officer-in-Charge of Akkelpur Police Station Sirajul Islam said being tipped-off that a gang of drug peddlers, including Pori, was staying in the area to sell drugs, police launched a drive there in the dead
of night. Sensing presence of police, the criminals opened fire, forcing the law enforcers to fire back, triggering a gunfight. Pori sustained bullet injures during the gunfight while his associates managed to flee the scene.
Later, police arrested Pori and admitted him to Joypurhat Adhunik Zila Hospital. He is now receiving treatment there under police custody. Police also recovered 50 pieces of Yaba tablet and some sharp weapons from the spot.
Pori is wanted in six cases with Akkelpur Police Station, the OC added.
