‘JMB man’ arrested in Jamalpur
JAMALPUR: Police arrested a suspected member of banned Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Narundi Railway Station area in Sadar upazila yesterday morning, reports BSS.The arrested person was identified as Abdul Kader, 30, of Chithaliya village, of the upazila. Acting on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a raid in the area at about 5 am and arrested Abdul Kader, said Sub-Inspector of Narundi Police Investigation Center Arifur Rahman. Abdul Kader along with 10 others was preparing to commit subversive activities at the station, the officer said.
Sensing the presence of police others managed to escape.
A case was filed in this connection.

1,012 bottles of phensidyl seized

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 1,012 bottles of Indian phensidyl syrup after searching a truck in Sonamasjid area of Shibganj upazila and arrested its driver yesterday morning.
The arrestee was identified as Shahidul Islam, 35, a
resident of Tangramari area in Haripur upazila of
Rajshahi.
Lieutenant Colonel SM Abul Ahsan, commanding officer of BGB Battalion-9, said tipped off, a team of the border force conducted a drive in the area and intercepted a Sonamasjid port-bound truck at about 7:00am.
Later, they recovered 1,012 bottles of phensidyl after searching the vehicle and arrested Shahidul. A case was filed in this connection.

Trucker killed in road crash
TANGAIL: A truck driver was killed and another injured in a head-on collision between two trucks in Kadimdhylla area on the Dhaka-Tangail highway under Mirzapur upazila yesterday morning, reports BSS.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately. Police said the accident occurred when a sand-laden
truck collided with another truck in the area at about 7am, leaving a truck driver dead on the spot and another injured.
The injured truck driver was sent to Tangail Medical College Hospital.

ID cards given among fishermen
JOYPURHAT: Fishermen’s identity cards (ID) were distributed among 1,158 fishermen in Sadar upazila yesterday to bring them under different subsidized programmes of the government, reports BSS.
Advocate Shamsul Alam Dudu, MP, inaugurated the programme at the upazila parishad auditorium as the chief guest. Fisheries department distributed the ID cards among the fishermen under Fishermen Registration and ID Card Distribution project while the government of Bangladesh provided the fund, official sources said.
Speaking on the occasion, Shamsul Alam said fishermen community in the country has been given identity cards so that they get proper assistance from the government.

Worker electrocuted in Natore
NATORE:  A factory worker was electrocuted in Mollick Hati area under Natore Sadar Upazila of the district yesterday, reports BSS.
The victim was identified as Dwip Saha, 18, son of Nripen Saha of Gangoil village under Natore sadar upazila.
Police said Dwip was electrocuted when he came in touch with a live electric wire at Nishan Chanachur Factory at 11am yesterday.
The factory workers rushed him to Natore Sadar Hospital where on duty doctors declared him dead.

Human chain against militancy
CHUADANGA: An anti-militancy human chain was formed in front of local Press Club in protest against terrorism and militancy on Wednesday, reports BSS.
Hundreds of teachers and students of different educational institutions of Chuadanga Sadar upazila took part in the human chain. Several educational institutions of Sadar upazila jointly organised the human chain. Among others, former headmistress of Chuadanga Government Girls High School Ila Hoque and Principal of Sirajganj Alia Madrasa Maulana Abdul Jalil Sarkar spoke on the occasion.
The speakers called upon all to resist terrorism and militancy at any cost, because they said militancy and terrorism are now the biggest enemy and threat to national and
world peace.

Firearms recovered in Joypurhat
Joypurhat: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered one foreign-made pistol, two magazines and eight rounds of bullet searching a bus at Atapara More on the Joypurhat-Hili road in Panchbibi upazila on Wednesday night, reports UNB.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Khabir, commanding officer of BGB battalion-3, said tipped off, a team of the border force intercepted a bus of ‘Keya Paribahan’ at Atapara More at about 10:00pm. Later, BGB members recovered one foreign-made pistol, two magazines and eight rounds of bullet after searching the vehicle.
3 held with drugs in C’nawabganj
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested a woman drug peddler and two drug addicts and recovered 70 litres of liquor and 150 grams of hemp from Hatatpara Square in Sadar upazila Wednesday afternoon, reports BSS.
The arrested persons were identified as Tajkera Begum, 45, of the aforesaid area, Zohurul Islam, 40, of Akundabaria village and Tasem Ali, 40, of Krisna Gobindapur Palwanpara of Ranihati union of Sadar upazila.
OC of DB Hamidur Rashid said acting on secret information a team of DB police raided the house of Tajkera at around 1.30 pm and held them with drugs.
