Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu has proposed formation of Bangladesh-Bhutan-India-Nepal (BBIN) Integrated Ganga-Brahmaputra-Meghna (GBM) Water Authority to create a regional platform aimed at mutual water sharing solutions among the countries having rivers in common, reports UNB. The minister was speaking at an interactive session at New Delhi’s think tank, Vivekananda International Foundation, yesterday. General (retd) Nirmal Chander Vij, director of the foundation, moderated the session attended by political analysts, former ambassadors, retired military high officials and distinguished fellows of the foundation, according to a message received here from New Delhi. Quoting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech on bilateral cooperation during his Dhaka visit last year in June, Inu said, “We need to address the core issues to open the golden door of cooperation.” He said water is the soul, while transportation is the vein’, and bilateral cooperation with regional integration on the water issue will take South Asian cooperation to a new height.
