Today is the birthday of veteran film actor and freedom fighter Farooque. But he will not celebrate his birthday today as he never celebrated the day after the Bangabandhu’s martyrdom on August 15 in 1975 to show respect to the Father of the Nation and his family members who were killed brutally on the black day in Bangladesh’s history.
Besides, Farooque’s birthday had not been celebrated in any special manner since his childhood. He lost his mother when he was only eight. As a whole, he never had any fascination centring his birthday.
In his early life, Farooque was associated with politics in Choy Dofa Andolon (Six Point Movement) in 1966 and accused in 37 cases. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was his political idol.
On the occasion of his birthday, Farooque will attend two TV shows on two satellite channels; the shows are—‘Alapan’ on Boishakhi and ‘Taroka Kathan’ on Channel i.
Apart from attending the TV programmes, he will spend the rest of the time with his family members today.
Farooque said, “Though I am going to attend the programmes invited by two TV channels today, I have no special feelings about my birthday. Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman loved me so much. And we lost him in this August. This lamentation cannot be forgotten. We mourn the loss throughout the month of August. Therefore, I have no interest about my birthday.”
Farooque’s debut film ‘Jolchhobi’ was released in March, 1971. He-acted notable films are ‘Abar Tora Manush Ho’, ‘Alor Michil’, ‘Lathial’, ‘Sujon Sokhi’, ‘Surjogrohon’, ‘Noyonmoni’, ‘Golapi Ekhon Traine’, ‘Din Jay Kotha Thake’, ‘Matir Maya’, ‘Sareng Bou’, ‘Surjo Songram’, ‘Sokhi Tumi Kar’, ‘Shimul Parul’, ‘Mia Bhai’, ‘Palki’, ‘Padma Meghna Jamuna’, ‘Jibon Songsar’, Nagor Dola’, ‘Ekhono Onek Raat’, ‘Ghorer Lokkhi’, ‘Dosti’, ‘Hasu Amar Hasu’, ‘Sud Asol’, ‘Saheb’, ‘Bondhu Amar’ ‘Jhinuk Mala’, ‘Poristhan’ and others.
He won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Role for the film ‘Lathial’ (1975). Besides winning the Bachsas Award in his career, he was recently awarded with the Bbarta Gold Medal.
