Law Minister Anisul Huq yesterday said the government is continuing its efforts to bring back Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s two fugitive condemned killers -- M Rashed Chowdhury and Noor Chowdhury -- from abroad, reports UNB.
He came up with the remarks while addressing a discussion meeting at the Registration Directorate in the capital marking the ‘National Mourning Day’. The minister, however, noted that there are some legal issues that need to be resolved for brining back the two condemned killers.
“Noor, who is one of the two (fugitive) killers, is hiding in Canada while Rashed Chowdhury in the United States. As Canada had abolished the capital punishment, they won’t repatriate such a convict who will be executed. We’ve been caught in this muddle,” he said.
In whatsoever way it can be, the killers of Bangabandhu will be brought back to the country and executed, he hoped.
Presided over by Law Secretary Abu Saleh Sheikh Md Jahirul Haque, the discussion was also addressed by Legislative & Parliamentary Affairs Division Secretary Mohammad Shahidul Haque, Inspector General of the Registration Directorate Khan Md Abdul Mannan and Additional Secretary of the Law Ministry Mostafizur Rahman.
