The suspected ringleader of a robber gang was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Koalikandi in Madarganj upazila on Monday night.The deceased was identified as Shamim Fakir, 28, son of Lal Miah Fakir of Koalikandi village in Madarganj upazila.Officer-in-Charge of Madarganj Police Station Ram Pada Mandal said being tipped-off that Shamim, accused in 14 cases, was staying in Koalikandi area along with his associates, a police team launched a drive there to arrest him. However, the gangsters opened fire on the law enforcers, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight at around 8: 45 pm.
Shamim was caught in the line of fire and was rushed to Jamalpur General Hospital where the attending doctors declared him dead.
Three policemen were also injured in the incident. Of the injured Sub-Inspector Razzak was admitted to Jamalpur General Hospital.A case was filed with Madarganj police station.
