Law Minister Anisul Huq yesterday said the legal process is underway to bring back M Rashed Chowdhury and Noor Chowdhury, two condemned killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, from abroad, reports UNB.
The minister made the remarks while talking to reporters after visiting orphans at Tejgaon in the city.
The Law Ministry served the orphans with food on the occasion of 41st death anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Of the convicts, the minister said, Noor Chowdhury is staying in Canada while M Rashed Chowdhury in the USA.
He said there is a complexi -ty in the Canadian laws over the extradition of a convict, who is awarded death sentence. “They’d requested us to commute his punishment. We also informed them that there’s no scope for lowering the punishment given by the apex court. “Still discussions are on with Canada to bring him back,” he said.
