Minister directs tough actions against land grabbers

Land Minister Shamshur Rahaman Sherif yesterday directed the administration to take stern actions against land grabbers.  He issued the directive while speaking as chief guest at Chittagong division level land zoning workshop at Cox’s Bazar BIAM Foundation, said an official release, reports BSS.
Presided over by Chittagong Divisional Commissioner Shankar Ranjan Saha, the workshop was also addressed by Land Reform Board Chairman Mahfuzur Rahman, National Land Zoning Project Director Kafil Uddin, Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner M. Ali Hossain and Senior Land Use Planner Golam Sarwar The minister said it is not possible to protect country’s agriculture land unless land zoning system is not implemented properly.
He said hundreds of acres of farm land would not be allowed to be destroyed in the name of building mills and factories.
Work is going on to develop 100 economic zones to set up mills and factories, he added.
The minister directed the officials concerned to find out ‘khas’ land to construct 31,000 union land offices across the country.
He advised the officials to take care so that the government’s development activities are not hampered in the name of protection of land.
Officials of the concerned administration suggested the government to take steps to stop construction of different structures on agriculture land.  The workshop highlighted the importance of not setting up residences, brickfields, factories and tanneries here and there.
Chittagong divisional commissioner, deputy commissioners, UNOs, assistant commissioners (land) and other officials concerned put forward their views in the workshop.
