Ashraf criticises
those with dual
standards

Awami League General Secretary and Public Administration Minister Syed Ashraful Islam yesterday strongly criticized those who are maintaining double standard on the issues of terrorists and militancy. The AL veteran also suggested that they leave Bangladesh for militancy prone countries like Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Syria.
“There is a section of people in the country, who shed crocodile tears for the country and at the same time patronise militants and terrorists. They should leave the country right now,” Ashraf said, this while addressing a discussion marking the August 15, the day of assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Bangladesh Awami Swechhasebak League organized the programme at Bangabandhu Bhaban on Dhanmondi road 32, in the capital.
The AL leader said those who don’t accept the birth of Bangladesh, the very quarter is showing sympathy to the militants.
“But I will tell it clearly that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina vowed to curb those who want to make the country a failed state. The war will be on and none will be able to stand against our war against militancy. There will be no room for terrorists in the country,” he said.
Addressing the same programme, AL Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif said no unity can be formed between BNP and Awami League as the two political parties believes in different ideologies.
“BNP believes in the ideology of Pakistan while the AL believes in the spirit of the War of Liberation. AL wants to take the country forward while the BNP wants to make the country a failed and militant state. So there is no possibility of building any unity with them despite some of our ‘so-called intellectuals’ wanting a greater unity with BNP,” he added.
He said the country’s people have already become united against militancy and terrorism under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. So there is no need to wage a unity with any political party afresh, Hanif said.
