Private TV journalist held in capital for ‘torturing’ wife

Police arrested a news editor of a private television channel from the city’s Segunbagicha area early yesterday in a case filed for torturing his wife for dowry, reports UNB.
The arrestee was identified as Rakibul Islam alias Mukul, news editor of Gtv.
Police said a team of Mirpur thana police launched a drive in Segunbagicha area around 2:30am and arrested Mukul.
Meanwhile, a court here on Saturday placed Mukul on a one-day remand in the case filed by his wife Naznin Akhter Tonni, a senior reporter of Bangla daily Dainik Janakantha.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Amit Kumar Dey passed the order after sub-inspector of Mirpur Police Station M Masud Pervez, also investigation officer of the case, produced Rakibul Islam Mukul before his court seeking a seven-day remand, said SI Moshiur Rahman, general recording officer of CMM court.
Tonni filed the case with Mirpur Police Station on Thursday for torturing her for dowry.
