Five people were killed in separate road crashes in four districts yesterday.
Our Jessore correspondent says: Two people were killed as a truck crashed into a roadside shop at Hashimpur, outskirts of Jessore town, yesterday morning.
The victims -- Matiar Rahman, of Hashimpur and Waziullah, of Panchbaria village in sadar upazila – were standing in front of the shop.
Shikder Akkas Ali, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station, said the accident took place at around 9am as an earth-laden truck hit a roadside shop after its driver lost control over the steering, leaving the duo dead on the spot. Our Mymensingh correspondent reports: An expatriate was killed at Mehrabari on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Bhaluka upazila yesterday morning.
Musleh Uddin, 53, of Paragoan village of the upazila, who returned from Malaysia recently, died on the spot when a cement-laden truck knocked him down at around 8.00 am, said Golam Sarwar, officer-in-charge of Bhaluka police.
Police seized the truck; but its driver managed to flee.
In Nilphamrai: Sundari Rani, 17, a garment worker, was killed when she was hit by a pickup van while going to her work place on a bicycle at Krishifarm crossing in Nilphamari town yesterday morning, reports BSS.
Sundari Rani, of Kukradanga village in sadar upazila, was a worker of Gold Timing Garments at Ukiler Mor of Nilphamari town.
Sub-Inspector of Nilphamari police Asaduzzaman said the pickup van fled away after the accident.
In Gopalganj: An unidentified man was killed when a Khulna-bound bus hit him in Karargati area in sadar upazila early yesterday, reports BSS.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Gopalganj sadar hospital for autopsy.
