State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haq Chunnu yesterday said skill development is essential for empowerment of women.
“The country will march forward further, if the women become self-reliant,” he said speaking as chief guest at a workshop at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital yesterday, reports BSS.
Labour and employment ministry, Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority and World Bank CSR jointly organised the ‘National Workshop on NARI: Women’s Empowerment Bangladesh Garments Industry Collaboration with CSR.’
The state minister urged all to come forward to train women to develop them as skilled workforce. Women’s skills and development are closely related, he said.
Secretary of Labour and Employment Ministry Michael Shipper, Additional Secretary Syed Nurul Islam and Joint Secretary Majibur Rahman also addressed the workshop. Work Bank Senior Social Development Specialist and
NARI Task Team Leader Sabah Moyeen discussed different aspects of the workshop.
Chunnu said women are making unique contributions to readymade garment industry.
The poor women can improve their lot by developing their skills, he added. Seventeen representatives, including foreign buyers and members of NGOs and development partners are taking part in the two-day workshop.
