Jatrapala ‘Bidrahi Buriganga’ to be premiered today

Jatra troupe Desh Opera is bringing its brand new production ‘Bidrahi Buriganga’ on stage today. The premier show of the production ‘Bidrahi Buriganga’ will be held at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) today at 7pm. Written by Aminur Rahman Multan, Milon Kanti Dey has directed the jatrapala. On the occasion of its premier show, BSA director General Liaquat Ali Lucky will attend the show as chief guest. Presided over by politician and writer Haidar Akbar Khan Rono, Group Theatre Federation Secretary General Akhtaruzzaman will be present as special guest. Director Aminur Rahman Sultan said the plot of the jatra play depicted the tragic incidents of the people, who travelled by river Buriganga during the time of Nawab Siraj-Ud-Dowla.
In particular, the play ironically depicted the battle of monks, mendicants and muslin weavers against the English people after the battle of Plassey. The cast of the jatra play includes M Alim, Mohammad Rafiq, Monjurul Amam Lablu, M Siraj, Shah Mohammad Ali, Waliullah Oli, Abul Hossain, Mozammel Haque, Rikta Sultana, Arisha Zaman and Minal Kanti Dey among others. Sankar Sarker has directed music for the jatra play, while Noyon Sheikh has done the makeup.   Where: Experimental Hall, BSA, Segun Bagicha
