Relief work going smoothly in Faridpur

ARIDPUR: Distribution of relief goods and supporting materials are going on satisfactorily in the affected areas though water level in river Padma receded by one cm which climbed to 99 cms above danger level, reports BSS.
This was stated by DC Sardar Sharafat Ali yesterday in a meet with the local press men at the conference room of the DC.
DC said that low laying areas of eleven unions of five upazilas were inundated during last few days. Meanwhile five high schools 60 primary schools were closed due to submersion of those institutions. DC said that so far three thousand distressed families were given relief packets full of 10 kgs of rice, one kg pulse, one liter edible oil, ‘Chira”, molasses and also candle.
The discussion was also participated by Khondoker Mohtesham Hossan Babor, Chairman of Faridpur Sadar upazila who also gave some suggestions for distribution of relief goods.
Arrangements have been made to shift the cattle heads and other livestock to safe places. Supplying of pure drinking water in the affected areas has been ensured, the DC said.
The DC further said that there was no dearth of relief goods in his stock and requested the press men to participate in relief work in the affected areas.
He disclosed that an area of 100 meters of flood protection embankment at Hossainpur under Gazirtek union of Charbhadrasan upazila eroded last night and four villages have been badly flooded. About 300 families of Joydevpur village have been shifted immediately to safer places, he added.
