31 get life for murder in 4 dists

Some 31 people were sentenced to life terms by separate courts in Narail, Pirojpur, Chittagong and Bandarban districts on Sunday.
Our Narail correspondent reports: A court convicted 23 people and sentenced them to life term imprisonment in a case filed for killing two people in 1995.The court also fined Tk 6000 each.
District and Session Judge Abul Basar Munshi pronounced the verdict on Sunday.
According to the prosecution, two men named Shaheen and Lichu were brutally killed by the convicts over previous enmity at Gazirhat in Kalia upazila of the district on April 14, 1995. Later, a case was filed against 29 people. After investigation police submitted chargesheet against all the accused.  Of the 29 accused, six died during the trial and four others are absconding.
After examining all relevant documents and evidences Judge Abul Basar Munshi passed the order in presence of 19 accused. Additional security measures have been taken in the court area following the verdict.
Our Pirojpur correspondent says: A court on Sunday sentenced a woman to life term imprisonment for killing her stepdaughter at Bishnukathi village in Nesarabad upazila in 2010.
The convict is identified as Morium Begum, 40, wife of Alamgir Hossain, of the village.
The court also fined the convict Tk10,000, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.
District and Sessions Judge M Golam Kibria pronounced the judgment in his crowded courtroom.
According to the prosecution, on June 23, 2010 Morium threw her step daughter Afifa, 7, into a water body and the girl drowned. In the afternoon Afifa’s father found her floating body in the pond.
The victim's father filed a murder case with Nesarabad Police Station against his wife on June 24 and on the same day police arrested her. Police after investigation submitted chargesheet against Morium.  Morium confessed to the killing before the court.
The judge after examining the witnesses and evidences found the woman guilty and handed down the punishment.
In Chittagong,  Judge Mohammad Nur-e-Alam of Chittagong 5th Additional District and Session Judge sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his brother-in-law in 2007, reports UNB.
The court also fined the convict Nipat Karmakar, a worker of a tea estate of Fatikchhari upazila, Tk 20,000, in default of which he is to suffer another year in jail. According to the prosecution, Harimohon Roy, a worker of the tea estate and a brother-in-law of the convict, was beaten to death by him over a family feud, on way to the workplace on October 3, 2007.
Police submitted chargesheet against Nipat on March 13, 2008. After examining records and 18 witnesses the court handed down the verdict.
In Bandarban: Six persons got life term imprisonment for abducting and killing a fish trader at Chainga village in Roangchhari upazila in 2011, reports BSS.
District and Session Judge M Shafikur Rahman pronounced the verdict.
The convicts are - Ubaching Marma, 30, Saching Mong Marma, 28, M Rejaul, 29, Monghlaching Marma, 27, Umapru Marma, 26, (fugitive) and U Klahu, 27. All are residents of the same area.
According to the prosecution, the convicted persons abducted and killed fish trader Nurul Kabir on March 11, 2011. Soon after the incident, the victim's brother Alam filed a murder case with Roangchhari police station against seven persons.
Police after investigation submitted charge sheet against the seven persons to the court. Later, the judge after examining the witnesses and evidences found the convicted persons guilty and handed down the punishment.
The judge also acquitted one person as the charge of killing brought against him could not be proved.
