Protest against false claim surrounding documentary ‘Beautiful Bangladesh’

‘Beautiful Bangladesh’, the 2011 documentary that was created to highlight the country, has recently become the subject of a major controversy. The main controversy centers on who the real director of the documentary is. Mainul Islam Mokul has claimed to be the actual director, while on the other hand Gazi Shubhro denied the claim, terming it as false and a hoax.
According to Gazi Shubhro, 156 people were involved in the making of the three-part documentary. Mainul Islam Mokul was one of the assistants. Besides that, he had no other contributions to the documentary. But Mainul Islam Mokul, claiming himself as the actual director, participated in a major tourism film festival ‘Film, Art and Tourism’ and even took the award and certificate for it.
To bring up the matter of Mainul Islam Mokul’s false claims, a press conference was called on June 23 by the production house Red Dot Multimedia at the National Press Club premises.
Chairman of Red Dot Multimedia Mahfuz Anam James signed a press release which stated ‘In 2011, Bangladesh hosted the ICC Cricket World Cup. To highlight Bangladesh to the rest of the world, ICC and Bangladesh Tourism Board created several documentaries.  ‘Beautiful Bangladesh’ was one such documentary. Grey Advertising Bangladesh Limited was the advertising agency for ICC. To produce the documentaries, on January 25, 2011, we received a huge work order through Grey Advertising Bangladesh Limited. At that time, Managing Director of Red Dot production house Gazi Nuruddin Ahmed assigned Shubhro as the director for the documentaries.”
In the press conference, it was also revealed that Mainul Islam Mokul, since 2011, has collected money from various individuals and organisations and is currently in London. He has also used his name as the director in many websites as well.
At the press conference, Red Dot Multimedia and Gazi Shubhro strongly protested against all these. l
