Four suspected Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) men including its alleged unit chief of southern region were arrested during a raid at a house in Mukterbari area of Tongi in Gazipur early yesterday.
A team of Rapid Action Battaion (RAB) arrested them from the house and seized some firearms, bombs and bomb making materials. The detained ‘JMB members’ were identified as Mahmudul Hasan Tanvir, alleged southern region ameer of the banned Islamist outfit, its trainer Ashikul Akbar and activists Nazmul Sakib and Rahmatullah Shubho.
RAB’s Legal and Media Wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan said, based on secret information, a RAB team raided the 3rd floor of a six-storey building owned by one Jasmin Akter and arrested the four JMB men. The RAB also seized eight bombs, a pistol, a magazine, over one hundred rounds of bullets, two other weapons, eight machetes, bomb-making materials and some jihadi literature from the room.
