Four killed in road accidents

At least four people were killed in a number of road accidents in Chandpur, Thakurgaon and Joypurhat districts yesterday. Our Chandpur correspondent reports: An unidentified old man, aged about 70, was killed at Enayetpur in Hajiganj upazila on Chandpur-Comilla highway early yesterday. OC of Hajiganj police Shah Alam said the old man died when he was hit by a speeding CNG-run autorickshaw at around 1 am. Our Thakurgaon correspondent says: An auto-rickshaw passenger was killed and five other were injured in an accident on Thakurgaon-Gorea road at Bagherhat in sadar upazila yesterday. The deceased was identified as Hazrat Ali, 36, inhabitant of Kashikagaon village in sadar upazila.
Police said a goods laden tractor hit the auto-rickshaw carrying six passengers at around 11:00am, leaving Hazrat dead on the spot and injuring five others. The tractor fell into the road side ditch after its driver lost control following the accident. Later, locals sent the injured people to Thakurgaon Modern Hospital. Locals block Thakurgaon-Gorea road for an hour in protest following the road accident. Later, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. OC of Thakurgaon sadar police station AKM Mehedi Hasan said police recovered the body and sent it to morgue for autopsy.  In Joypurhat:  Two people were killed and 25 others were injured following a head-on collision between a bus and a human hauler at Pachshira-Shimultali on the Joypurhat-Bogra highway yesterday morning, reports UNB. The deceased were identified as Farid Uddin, 51, a resident of Sarail village in the upazila, and Mannan Khandaker, 47. OC of Kalai police Sirajul Islam said the accident took place at around 10.30am when a Bogra-bound bus collided with the human hauler, leaving Farid and Mannan dead on the spot and 25 others injured.
