Jhinaigati Upazila Chairman Aminul Islam Badsa has been suspended temporarily after filling of several corruption cases against him by the Anti- corruption commission (ACC). Lotfun Nahar, senior assistant secretary for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives has officially suspended him yesterday for corruption as per an ordinance, said Jhinaigati UNO Mohammad Mojammel Haque. Earlier, Tangail District Ant-Corruption Commission Director Jahangir Alam filed seven separate cases against Aminul Islam Badsa, also joint convener of district BNP.
Sources said deputy commissioner had allocated a total of 100.209 tonnes of rice and wheat for the development works under Jhinaigati upazila chairman in fiscal year 2010/11. On receiving the allocation, the upazila chairman held a secret meeting with seven union parishad chairmen and distributed rice and wheat in favour of mosques and madrassas under 35 projects in the upazila. When the works of the projects were shown completed, the matter was informed to the journalists of the district.
After visiting the project areas, it was found that all the money of the projects was illegally been allocated by forging the signatures of the president, secretary and members of the project committee.
Former Jhinaigati UNO SM Rezaul Karim investigated the incident on the basis of the published reports and found that 28 out of the 35 projects were fake and false in the light of investigation conducted by Anti-Corruption Commission.
