Savar: Police in a drive rescued a union parishad chairman who had been abducted from Manikganj and arrested four alleged abductors from Jaleswar area of Savar municipality on Wednesday, reports UNB. The rescued was identified as Abdur Rashid, 73, chairman of Shimulia union parishad of Shibalaya upazila in Manikganj district. The arrestees were identified as Mitu Akhter, 32, Aleya Akhter 32, Mohammad Khokon, 30, and Abdur Rahim, residents of Louhajang upazila on Munshiganj district.
Police said Rashid had been abducted from Nabinagar area on Tuesday afternoon while he came to the area for his personal works. The abductors demanded Tk5.00 lakh from his family and also took Tk1 lakh through bKash. Later his family members filed two general diaries with Shibalaya and Ashulia police stations. A team of police from Ashulia Police Station conducted the drive in the area and rescued Rashid from a house, said Nazmul Hasan, assistant superintendent of police (Savar circle). They also arrested four people from the spot where two others fled away, added the ASP. A case was filed with Ashulia police station.
