GAIBANDHA: National Fisheries Week-2016 will be celebrated in the district as elsewhere in the country from July 19 to July 25 through active participation of all the concerned, reports BSS.
The objective of the fisheries week celebration is to create much awareness among the people to boost production of fishes including indigenous ones to meet the nutrition demand for the growing people of the country.
To celebrate the week in a befitting manner in the district, the department of fisheries and the district administration are jointly taking preparations and chalking out different programmes.
The programmes include press conference, bringing out rally, discussion meeting, fish fry releasing in water bodies, documentary film display, drives against formalin, motivating people and students on fish farming, and prize distribution to the successful fish farmers in concluding ceremony.
District fisheries officer M Abdul Latif said to make the fisheries week a total success here a preparatory meeting had already been held at the conference room of district collectorate building with deputy commissioner (DC) M Abdus Samad in the chair.
DC said as the fisheries sector had been meeting 80 percent demands of the total animal protein, there is no alternative to fish production in large scale through best use of the existing water bodies in changed environment and situation.
