Govt takes initiative to re-construct bridge over Manash River

GAIBANDHA: An initiative has been taken by the government to re-construct a 44-metre length PC (Pre-Stressed Concrete) girder bridge
over the Manash River at Dariapur bazaar on Gaibandha-Sundarganj Road under Sadar upazila,
reports BSS.The construction farm Eunus & Brothers is constructing the bridge at the direct supervision of Roads and Highways Department (RHD) at a cost of Tk 59 million while the government of Bangladesh is providing the fund, office sources said.
At present, the diversion road is being built on the temporary basis at eastern side of the bridge to help the people across the river and move
their vehicles in an alternative way, said an official of the department.
With the completion of the work of the diversion road, the re-construction work of the bridge would start, he said adding that the local lawmaker is likely to inaugurate the work shortly as the chief guest.
Executive engineer of RHD Mahbubul Alam Khan said the work was expected to be finished by June 30, 2017, and a long standing demand of the locals would be fulfilled.
