Jamal look to keep up momentum

Teams of the JB Bangladesh Premier Football League are going to participate in the ninth edition of the top soccer competition of the country with different aspect as this time the matches of the league will take places in seven different venues across the country.  
The SAIF Powertec, who bought the right of the Bangladesh Premier League Football, with a view to decentralize the soccer with the cooperation of the BFF decided to organise the league in different venues.
Apart from Bangabandhu National Stadium, Dhaka, six other venues are, Chittagong MA Aziz Stadium, where from the league of 2016-17 will begin its journey, Sylhet Stadium, Mymensingh Stadium, Rajshahi Muktijoddha Smriti Stadium, Barisal Stadium and Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni Stadium, Gopalganj.
However, ahead to their league campaign in a press conference yesterday, coaches, managers and captains of the four teams expressed their expectation and the teams’ strength with the league at the BFF Bhaban.
Shafiqul Islam Manik, coach of the defending champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club looked not so confident to defend the title while he explained that they could not do good result in the Independence Cup and Federation Cup due to lack of enough players.
Manik when addressing in the press meet, “As a defending champions, we could not do well in the last two tournaments due to scarcity of players. We had to play without eight key players  in the league.”
“Even we could not form the full strength team and did not get enough players to form a team, as we have 23 players in the team while 30 to 35 players are essential to form a team. At the last moment signing up some young players to complete the team.”
“However, still now I believe, as a champions team and giants we have been dominating for five years in the domestic soccer, if the boys can play with their ability hopefully we can expect to retain the tile, said Manik.
But Sheikh Jamal, besides losing the key players, had another big blow when their most valuable player Wedson Anselme is very much uncertainty to play this season for them when the Haitian striker most probably will not come here as he will play for Kolkata East Bengal.
Manik also said that they have 50-50 chance to have Wedson and they are trying to bring back him –“Actually, our president is trying his best to convince Wedson to play for Jamal, now it is 50-50 chance Landing has already joined and Emeka will coming soon.”
Arambagh Krira Sangha, who did a sensational result in the Federation Cup winning the runners-up trophy, eyeing to keep up the momentum of the Federation Cup in the league.  
Their coach Kazi Niamul Majid Joly and captain Mitul Hassan said that the result of the Federation Cup would be inspiration for them and they have confidence to do well in the league.
Abdul Mannan Majumdar, manager of the Muktijoddha team said that they are very organised and expecting to play good football and will not leave anybody unchallenged.
Coach Abdul Kayum Sentu was also happy with the team while he said that comprising with youngsters, they will able to satisfy the spectators. Their target is to improve the position than last season from sixth position.  
Brothers Union manager Amer Khan said that may be it would be something difficult for the players to adjust with the condition of the different venues. But the former booter said, “Brothers always want to be champions and this time also we will play to remain in the championship race.”
Balgopal Maharjan, coach from Nepal said he was happy with the performance of the boys in the Federation Cup and his target to be among the top fours.  
Abdus Salam Murshedi, chairman of the BPL, Tarafdar Ruhl Amin chairman of the SAIF Powertec also addressed in the press meet while Showkat Ali Khan Jahangir deputy chairman of the BPL, BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Shohag were also present among others.
