Militancy is a global crisis: Hassan Mahmud

Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud yesterday said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is launching movement against terrorism with terrorists as she has ally with religious extremists, reports BSS. “You (Khaleda) should at first leave anti-liberation war force Jamaat and apologize to the nation for carrying out killings and sabotage, then you can take decision of waging anti-terrorism movement,” he told a roundtable meeting at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital yesterday. Bangalee Sangskritik Jote organised the meeting on “Cultural movement to resist terrorism and militancy”. Hasan said terrorism and militancy is not a problem for Bangladesh alone, rather it is a global crisis. “Our cultural practice played a pivotal role in the Liberation War 1971. But that cultural practices are very little in the society now,” he said and called for waging social movement against the terrorism and militancy.
In his address, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique said Pakistani spy agency ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence) and BNP-Jamaat are hatching conspiracies to thwart the country’s development activities. “Mass resistance should be built to resist terrorism and militancy. Consciousness should be raised among families and institutions,” he said. Film actor Faruk Ahmed, cultural personality Enamul Haque, poet Rabindra Gope, Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendro artistes Manoranjan Ghoshal and Abdul Jabbar, among others, addressed the meeting.
