Experts for moral education of youths to stop rise of militancy

Eminent academics have suggested giving moral education to the youths at home along with academic education and involving them with cultural activities based on the Liberation War spirit to resist the rise of militancy, reports BSS.
Talking to BSS, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique said along with the implementation of various government programmes to prevent militancy, different measures should be taken at the family and social levels for the purpose.
He said side by side with the teachers, the families have responsibilities of monitoring, if any student remains absent from classes and get involved with any criminal activity.
The guardians should know with whom their children are making friendship, where they are going and how they are using Facebook and mobile phones, he added.
The parents should behave friendly with the children and know their daily activities, the DU vice-chancellor said.
He suggested that the teachers can hold discussions on militancy and terrorism for sometime at the beginning of their classes.
Eminent academic Prof Sirajul Islam Chowdhury said the students of private universities have no cultural life as those universities have no play ground and facilities for recreation.
This has reduced mutual relations among the students, he said and suggested increasing cultural practices to bring back the students to healthy life. Otherwise, they will get lost in darkness because of drug addiction and other offensive activities, he warned.
Noted Islamic thinker and Islamic Foundation (IF) Director General Shamim Muhammad Azfal said the books outside the stipulated curriculum in educational institutions established and run by Jamaat-Shibir must be stopped.
