Two alleged drug peddlers were injured in two separate incidents of ‘gunfight’ with police in Sadar and Debhata upazilas early yesterday.
Emdad Sheikh, officer-in-charge of Satkhira Sadar Police Station, said a team of police led by sub-inspector Emdad launched a drive in Bejerdanga area at around 1.30am. Sensing the presence of police, a gang of drug peddlers hurled a bomb towards them, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate, which left drug peddler Bishwajit Sarkar, a resident of Madhumollardangi area, bullet-injured.
Police also recovered 100 pieces of Yaba tablet and several bottles of Phensidyl syrup from his possession.
In Debhata, tipped off, a team of police launched a drive inside a brick field at Puspokati village early in the morning.
Sensing the presence of police, a gang of drug peddlers hurled a bomb towards them, prompting the law enforcers to fire back, which left drug peddler Nuruzzaman, 24, son of Aminul Mollah, a resident of Baliadangi village, injured, said Mustafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Debhata Police Station.
Police also recovered some bottles of Indian Phensidyl syrup and liquor from the spot. Nuruzzaman was accused in two smuggling cases with Debhata Police Station.
However, two separate cases were filed in connection with the incidents. The injured were admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital.
