RANGPUR: Expanded cultivation of Haribhanga mango brings huge profits to hundreds of farmers changing their fortune and putting huge positive impacts on the agro-economy to speed up national advancement,
reports BSS.Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Public Administration HN Ashikur Rahman said this while inaugurating ‘HaribhangaMango Fair-2016’ on Podaganj School and College ground under Mithapukur upazila on Monday as chief guest. Authority of local Khoragachh union Parishad has been organising the five-day fair for displaying cultivation technology and success achieved in commercial farming of the highly fleshy, fibreless and tasty local variety Haribhanga mango in the district.
With Chairman of Khoragachh union parishad Asaduzzaman Asad in the chair, Chairman of Rangpur district unit of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and Member of its central Board of Directors Rehana Ashikur Rahman attended the occasion as special guest.
The chief guest visited different stalls after inaugurating the fair where huge Haribhanga mango and its saplings are being exhibited displaying cultivation and production of the prospective local variety Haribhanga mango having huge export potential. The speakers said some 6,250 farmers have cultivated the mango in 4,250 small, medium, big orchards and homesteads on over 5,800 hectares of land in Mithapukur, Sadar, Badarganj, Pirganj and other upazilas of the district.
They also narrated as how tens of hundreds of farmers of Mithapukur and other upazilas in the district already changed their fortune through commercial basis cultivation of Haribhanga mango in recent times.
