Five killed in Tangail road crashes

Five people, including a minor girl, were killed and 11 others injured in separate road accidents in Basail upazila of the district yesterday morning. Four people, including a covered van driver, were killed and 11 others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a covered van on the Dhaka-Tangail highway in Koratipara area of the upazila in the morning. Two of the deceased was identified as Abdur Rahim, 40, of Monirampur village of Pirgachha upazila in Rangpur district and Ajid, 30, a resident of Sundarganj upazila in Gaibandha district. OfC of Basail Police Station Nurul Islam Khan said  the accident took place in the area around 7am as the truck collided with the Dhaka bound covered van, leaving the covered van  driver dead on the spot and 12 passengers of two vehicles injured. The injured were admitted to Tangail Medical College Hospital where three others succumbed to their injuries. Meanwhile, a minor girl was killed and her parents were injured as a covered van hit a motorcycle carrying them on the highway in Korotia Bazar bypass area around 9am.
