Sholakia attack suspect remanded

A Kishoreganj court yesterday placed Zahidul Haque Tanim, 24, an accused in a case filed over Thursday’s attack near Sholakia Eidgah, on a 10-day remand.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Abdus Salam Khan passed the order yesterday.
Meanwhile, Abir Rahman, a student of North South University and an alleged militant who was killed in a gunfight with police during the Sholakia Eidgah attack, was buried at a local graveyard in the district town yesterday.
Sub-inspector of Kishoreganj Model Police Station Sanjoy Kumar said as the family members refused to accept the body of Abir, police took an initiative to bury the body.
Caretaker of the graveyard Mahtab Uddin led the Namaj-e- Janaza of Abir but no people took part in the Janaza, witnesses said.
Earlier on July 7, the Eid day, at least four people, including two policemen, were killed and 12 others injured in a bomb attack coupled with an exchange of gunfire.
Shafiul Alam Sohan alias Shafiul Islam alias Saiful Islam, 22, of Ghoraghat upazila in Dinajpur, is the other accused in the case.
Meanwhile, Sohan was a charge-sheeted accused in the killing of a Hindu priest in Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh, UNB reports quoting the police.
Giasuddin Ahmed, superintendent of Panchagarh Police, said Sohan, who was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) members on July 7 over the Sholakia terrorist attack, was an accused in the February 21 murder of Jogeshwar Roy, 50, a Hindu priest.
