Call to shun violence

Eid-ul-Fitr, the largest religious festival of Muslims, was celebrated in the country on Thursday with much enthusiasm, reports UNB.
The day's programmes began with the offering of Eid prayers by the Muslims at mosques and eidgahs throughout the country where the imams called for unity against terrorism.
President Abdul Hamid offered his Eid-ul-Fitr prayers along with hundreds of people from all walks of life at the National Eidgah in the capital.
Cabinet members, Supreme Court judges, members of parliament, senior political leaders and high civil and military officials also offered prayers at the main Eid congregation.
Senior Pesh Imam of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Maulana Mizanur Rahman conducted the prayers.
A special munajat was offered seeking divine blessings for the peace and progress of the country and the welfare of its people.
The country’s largest Eid congregation was held at Sholakia Eidgah of Kishoreganj district at 10 am despite a bomb attack followed by an exchange of fire between law enforcers and terrorist there.
Eid congregations were also held in eidgahs, mosques and open spaces all over the country.
The national flag was hoisted atop government and non-government office buildings on the day. The main city streets and road islands were decorated with the national flags and banners inscribed with 'Eid Mubarak' in Bangla and Arabic.
Television channels and radio stations aired special programmes on the occasion. Special diets were served in hospitals, jails, government child families, Chotomoni Nibash, centres for persons with disabilities, shelter homes, orphanages, Vagrant Welfare and Destitute Welfare centres.
President Abdul Hamid and his wife Rashida Khanom hosted a reception to senior government officials, city elite and diplomats at Bangabhaban
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina exchanged eid greetings with leaders and workers of her party and people of all strata at her official residence Ganobhaban.
Meanwhile, imams of different mosques delivered sermons during the Eid jamaats urging the Muslims, especially parents to follow the real teachings of the holy Quran, imparting their children the message of the holy book that says saving lives is the true meaning of Islam, and forbids killings.
The sermons had been delivered at the Eid congregations and Juma prayers asking all to come out of the path of violence by learning the true message of the Quran, devotees reported.
The Imam of Gulshan Jame Mosque said Islam is against killings, the religion instead tells every one to save lives.
