Road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader yesterday expressed dissatisfaction over the quality of construction of the four-lane Chandra-Nabinagar highway. “I am not happy with the quality of work. The development of the four lanes was completed two years ago, but potholes have appeared on the highway after just a little rain,” he told reporters after inspecting the highway at Chandra.
Quader said he has directed the Roads and Highways Department to repair it, but they are yet to complete it. “When I stood on the highway, I saw a car with a burning stove in front of me. But it did not work after I left the place. It’s very unfortunate,” he added.
The minister also advised those using the highways to comply with rules and be disciplined. “Unless there is a change in mentality, the government’s initiatives to develop highways into four or eight lanes will go in vain. So, we have to try to maintain discipline both in the transport sector and highways,” he added.
“The highways have again been covered with banners and billboards by petty leaders. It is hard to find out the photos of leaders like Sheikh Hasina and Bangabandhu among this flood of photos,” he said.
