Marriage registrar hacked
to death in Bogra
Bogra: A marriage registrar was hacked to death by criminals at Baniagati Bazar in Dhunot upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Imam Matiur Rahman Mati, 40, of the area and marriage registrar of Gopalnagar union parishad of the upazila.
Officer-in-charge of Dhunot Police Station Panchananda Biswas said a group of criminals attacked Mati in the area when he was returning home from Tarabi prayers around 12.30am, leaving him dead on the spot.
Informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Bogra General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
The reason behind the killing could not be known immediately.
A case was filed in this connection.
Five injured by robbers
in Laxmipur
Laxmipur: Five of a family, including a woman, were injured as robbers stormed in and looted valuables from their house in Saicha area of Bamni union parishad in Raipur upazila early yesterday, reports UNB.
Three of the injured were identified as Kaji Najir Ahmed, his son Alamgir Hossain and Faizunnesa.
Lokman Hossain, officer-in-charge of Raipur Police Station, said a gang of robbers numbering 10-15 stormed into a house of one Najir Ahmed early in the morning.
They looted cash and gold ornaments worth Tk 3 lakh from the house. When the house inmates resisted the robbers, they stabbed and beat them indiscriminately, leaving five of the inmates injured.
The injured were admitted at Laxmipur Sadar Hospital.
On information Police visited the spot.
Minor dies after hornet stings
Gaibandha: A minor girl died one day after suffering a severe allergic reaction to hornet sting at Uttar Harinsingha village in Sadar upazila, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Salma Khatun, 6, daughter of Sohel Miah of the village. Locals said Salma along with other children went to play near a bamboo cluster beside her house on Saturday morning.
Salma felt sick seriously as several hornets stung her after a child threw a brick chip at a hornet hive hanging from a bamboo in the cluster. Salma was admitted to Sadar Hospital and later taken back to her home after some treatment,
However, she died at her home early Sunday, said her family members.
Youth stabbed dead in Barguna
Barguna: A college student was stabbed to death at Ghotbaria area in Sadar upazila on Sunday afternoon over a trifling matter, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Sohel, 22, a final year student of Kalapara Polytechnique Institute.
Quoting local sources, police said former UP chairman Md Shahjahan and his associate Liton scolded Sohel on charge of stealing fruits from a tree. Later, they locked into an altercation with Sohel’s father as he protested the incident. At one stage, Shahjahan stabbed Sohel with a sharp weapon and fled the scene.
The injured was rushed to Barguna General Hospital where doctor declared him dead.
One held with 14-kg hemp
GOPALGANJ: Police in a drive arrested an alleged drug peddler with 14 kgs of cannabis from Basuria area in Tungipara upazila of the district on Sunday, reports BSS.
The arrestee is identified as Abu Hanif Mollah of  Comilla district.
On information, a team of Tungipara police conducted a raid in the area and arrested Mollah with a cannabis loaded sack.
Mahmudul Hoque, officer-in-charge of Tungipara Police Station, said Mollah was going to Pirojpur through Tungipara from Comilla carrying the hemp.
