Five Rohingyas arrested at Teknaf refugee camp
DHAKA: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) yesterday claimed that they in an overnight drive have detained five Rohingyas in connection with an arms robbery and killing an Ansar commander in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar on May 13 this year, reports BSS.
RAB’s legal and media wing director Commander Mufti Muhammad Mahmud Khan said the members of RAB-7 officials arrested the Rohingyars—Mohammad Rafiq alias Mamun Miah, 30, Abdur Razzak, 25, Joynal alias Jane Alam, 50, Mohammad Harun, 30, and Abdus Salam, at Kutupalang Rohingya camp. A legal process is underway against them, he said.
Mother, baby in road accident

A woman and her eight-month-old son were killed as a bus plunged into a roadside ditch in Agarpur area of Kuliarchar upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased were identified as Nazira and her
son Shamim.
AKM Mizanul Haque, in-charge of Bhairab highway police, said the Kishoreganj-bound ‘Ananya Super’ bus plunged into the roadside ditch in the area around 10.30am as the driver lost control over its wheels, leaving the mother and the child dead on the spot and five other people injured. On information, police recovered the bodies.
One killed in Jessore road crash
JESSORE: An unidentified man was killed in a road accident in Fatepur area on Jessore-Narail road under Jessore sadar upazila of the district on Thursday night, reports BSS.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Thana Elias Hossain said the accident occurred when a Jessore-bound bus from Narail fell into a roadside ditch in the area on Thursday night, leaving several people injured.
Local people rescued them and admitted to Jessore sadar hospital where doctor declared the man, aged about 25, as dead. A case has been filed with Jessore Kotwali Thana.
Municipal mayor held in Rajshahi
Rajshahi: Police arrested Tanore municipal mayor Mizanur Rahman Mizan from municipality bhaban on Thursday noon for irregularities in VGF (Vulnerable Group Feeding) rice distribution, reports UNB.
Mamunur Rashid, upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) of Tanore upazila, said rice was being distributed among people under VGF programme in the pouro bhaban for upcoming Eid on Thursday.
Following complaints by some beneficiaries, he went to municipality bhaban and found irregularities in rice distribution. Later, police arrested mayor Mizan as per the UNO’s order, said Mirza Abdus Salam, officer-in-charge of Tanore Police Station.
Grocer stabbed dead in Tangail
Tangail: A grocer was stabbed to death by some miscreants at Baghil Bazar in Sadar upazila on Thursday night, reports UNB.
Nazmul Haq Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge of Tangail Model Police Station, said a group of miscreants swooped on Abdus Sabur, 30, a grocery shop owner and son of Abdus Sattar, when he reached in front of Baghil KK High School in the village around 10:30 pm on his way
home. They stabbed Sabur indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police said the grocer might have been killed over previous enmity.
