Six muggers arrested
Police arrested six listed muggers along with a knife in the city’s Jitu Miah Point early yesterday. During the arrested police also seized a microbus from their possession.
Police said, on getting secret information a team of police barricaded the Jitu Miah Point. Sensing the law enforcer’s presence the muggers want to flee the other direction but police managed to arrest them along with microbus said, Shohel Ahmed, officer in charge of Kotwali police station.
18 shops fined in Rajshahi
National Consumer Rights Protection Department (NCRPD) under the Ministry of Commerce on Thursday fined and realised Taka 2.53 lakh from different shops in three district towns including the capital.
The NCRPD with their seven individual monitoring team visited seven markets at Naogaon, Mymensingh, Rajshahi and the capital city and fined Taka 2,53,000 to 18 shops.
The business establishments were fined for not displaying price chart, producing food under unhygienic condition, charging exorbitant prices of products and for selling product without expiry date.
Schoolgirl electrocuted
A school girl was electrocuted at Uttor Bhushi village of Boalkhali upazila in Chittagong on Thursday.
The victim was identified as Shoshi Chokoroborti, 12, a class six student of local High School and daughter of Bishow Nath Chokoroborthi and hailed from Uttor Bhushi village of Boalkhali upazila of the district.
Mohammad Salauddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Boalkhali upazila said the school girl was electrocuted while collecting flowers beside an electric pole of their residence at Uttar Bhushi village under Boalkhali upazila at 7 am on Thursday. The body was sent to hospital morgue for postmortem, he added.
Two food shops fined
Two food shops were fined Taka 10,000 on Thursday in Rajshahi city on charges of selling date-expired and sub-standard food.
A team of the Department of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted raids in Haragram area under Rajpara Police Station in the city and fined Mokka Food Products and Durjoy Stores for preparing, possessing and selling food and other consumer items in unhygienic condition. The team also realised Taka 10,000 from the shop owners.
11 miscreants arrested
Teams of Rapid Action Battalion Unit-8 operating in separate drives in different areas on Wednesday night to Thursday arrested 11 miscreants and recovered arms- ammunition’s, drugs, mobile phone sets.
Major Adnan Kabir, deputy commander and spokesman of RAB-8 in a press briefing at RAB-8 headquarter in Rupatali area of Barisal city disclosed these facts in presence of the arrested on Thursday noon.
The RAB-8 official said three were arrested in Hamirdi area on Barisal-Dhaka highway during preparation for committing dacoity.
After interrogating them 8 other associates of the miscreants’ gang were also arrested till Thursday morning.
The arrested miscreants were Imam Hossain Palash, Krishna Kanta Majumdar, Sumon Hossain, Israfil Matubbar, Asadur Rahman, Robi Chandra Das, Sohel Talukdar, Nur Hossain, Jewel Matubbar, Sohel Matubbar and Radhey Shayam Mandal.
