3 held with VoIP equipment

 Police in a drive arrested three people along with huge VoIP equipment, SIM cards from Sankipara Nayan Moni Market area in the district town on Wednesday. Tipped off, a team of police raided at the house of one Jahirul Islam, 20, in the area around 11 pm and recovered huge VoIP equipment, a number of SIM cards and National ID Card from the house, said Quamrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station.
Later police arrested Jahirul Islam, Humayun, 25, and Ruhul Amin, 20, in this connection.
Shops in Jhenidah fined Tk 5,500
Jhenidah: A mobile court here on Wednesday fined two business establishments Tk 5,500 for producing foods in unhygienic environment, reports UNB.
The mobile court, led by assistant commissioner
and executive magistrate Sohel Sultan Julkar
Nain, conducted the drives in Post Office More area of the district town at about 3pm and fined the two
establishments.
The court fined Bhai Bhai Confectionary Tk 5000 while Madina Sweets Tk 500 for making sweetmeats in an unhygienic environment without using gloves, and also for using harmful chemicals.
UP members take oath
Jhenidah: Fifteen newly-elected members of union parishad (UPs) in Sadar upazila were sworn in on Wednesday, reports UNB.
Executive member of Sadar upazila Mostafizur Rahman administered the oaths to the 15 members of UPs at a function at the conference room of the upazila parishad auditorium in the morning.
Sadar upazila chairman Abdul Alim, vice-chairman Tahura Begum and upazila election office Mokhlesur Rahman were also present at the function.
One held with Indian silver
Chuadanga: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a man along with illegally imported Indian silver from Loknathpur village in Damurhuda upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The arrestee was identified as Nasir Uddin, 45, son
of Budu Malik, a resident of Nastipur village of the
upazila. Mohammad Amir Majid, director of BGB battalion-6, said tipped off, a team of the border force conducted a drive in the area and arrested Nasir when he was passing through the area by a motorbike in the morning.
The BGB members also recovered 688 tolas of silver from his possession. A case was filed in this connection.
Construction worker electrocuted
BRAHMANBARIA: A construction worker was electrocuted and another injured in Chatolpar-Borobazaar area under Nasirnagar upazila of the district yesterday, reports BSS.
The victim was Mosarrof Hossain, 38, son of late Akbar Ali of Bagaiya village of the upazila.
Police said the incident took place when they came in contact with a live electric wire on the roof of an under-construction house of the area yesterday morning.
Mosarrof died on the spot and critically injured Masud Miah, 34, was sent to a local hospital.
11 dacoits arrested in Faridpur
BARISAL: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-8) in separate drives arrested eleven dacoits and recovered fire arms, bullets, country made arms and yaba tablets from different areas of Faridpur last night, deputy commander of RAB-8 Major Adnan Kabir said at a press conference, reports BSS.
The arrested are Imam Hossain Polash, Krisna Kanto Majumder, Sumon Hossain, Esrafil Matubbar, Asadur Rahman, Robi Chandra Das, Sohel Talukder, Nur Hossain, Jewel Matubbar, Sohel Matubbar, and Radhesam Mandol, all are residents of different areas of Bhanga Thana in Faridpur district.
RAB during the drives recovered a foreign made
pistol, a shutter gun, five rounds of bullets, a magazine, various sorts of country-made weapons including three ram-daos, phensidyl, 320 pieces of yaba tablets, 60 sim cards, 23 mobile phone sets and a laptop from their
possession.
