Quader urges VIPs not to travel on wrong side

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday requested VIPs not to travel on the wrong side of the highways during Eid journey, reports UNB. “Whoever you are—big leader or any influential person—I request all of you not to travel on the wrong side of the highways. It will help to reduce public sufferings,” he said at a press conference at the secretariat. People will reach their destinations more comfortably during this Eid as the road condition is better than previous years, he said adding that if any problem is seen on any road it will be solved immediately. He said the Prime Minister will inaugurate the two four lane highways -- the four lane Dhaka-Chittagong highway and the four lane Joydebpur-Mymensingh highway—through video conference at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital around 11am on July 2, he said.
The opening of the two four lane highways will strengthen the road transports network of the country, and will reduce transport cost, traffic congestion, accidents, said Quader. The four-lane upgrading of the 190 km highway from Daudkhali, Comilla to Chittagong City Gate will make it possible to travel between Dhaka and Chittagong within four and a half hours, he noted. On the other hand, the four-lane upgrading of 87 km highway from Mymensingh to Joydebpur will facilitate quicker transportation of agricultural and industrial products from Mymensingh division and Gazipur district to the capital, the minister added.
