SP Babul not under watch: Home minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan yesterday said SP Babul Akter has not been under police surveillance in connection with his wife’s killing, reports UNB.  “We’ve never said he is under our radar. We don’t think he has been under police surveillance,” he told reporters after a programme at Osmani Memorial auditorium in the capital. On June 5, miscreants gunned down SP Babul’s wife Mahmuda Khanam at GEC intersection in Chittagong. In the early hours on Saturday last, police picked up Babul Akter from his in-law’s Bhuiyan Para residence in the capital’s Khilgaon area. He was released after around 15 hours. About the interrogation of Babul, the home minister said Babul was taken before those arrested in connection with his wife murder to identify them and unearth the mystery behind the killing. He further said, “The point whether Babul Akter is responsible or whether he has any link to the killing or not has not come yet.” The home boss said police have already identified the killers analysing the CCTV camera footage. “Many of those killed her have already been arrested and process are on to track down the rest ones.” Asaduzzaman urged reporters to have patience to get detailed information about the killing and killers.
