Police yesterday submitted a charge sheet against Dhaka city unit BNP joint convener MA Qaiyum and six others in a case filed in connection with the murder of Italian national Cesare Tavella. The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) submitted the charge sheet with a Dhaka court, said DMP (DB) deputy commissioner Sheikh Nazmul Alam. The six other accused are Qaiyum’s brother Abdul Matin, Tamzid Ahmed alias Rubel, Russell Chowdhury, Minhazul Arefin alias Bhagne Russel, Sohel Ahmed and Sakhwat Hossain. Alam said the name of Sohel Ahmed was supposed to be dropped from the charge sheet as the law enforcers did not have his full details. However, his name was included later as the police found details on him, the DC added. Sohel’s family claim that some people posing as ‘DB police’ picked him up from Maddha Badda in October, 2015 and since then he has been remaining missing. On 28 September, Cesare Tavella, 50, an official of the Netherlands-based non-governmental organisation ICCO Cooperation, was shot dead by some miscreants at the Gulshan diplomatic zone in the capital.
